Dubai Man's Birthday Celebration Ends in Police Custody
Dubai: A birthday celebration in Dubai took a dramatic turn when a young man filmed himself setting fire to a public road, prompting swift action from the authorities. The video, which quickly went viral on social media, showed the man pouring a flammable liquid on the asphalt and igniting it, creating a line of flames.
The police said the stunt posed a significant risk to motorists, road infrastructure, and the environment, and was a clear violation of Federal Traffic Law. Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic, confirmed that the act was carried out solely to gain online attention.
The police tracked the individual responsible by reviewing the footage and identifying the vehicle seen in the video. The man was summoned, his car impounded, and he will be held accountable for all violations and damages. The authorities are taking a strong stance against reckless acts performed for digital popularity.
The police warned that such stunts can mislead drivers, obstruct traffic, and trigger panic among motorists. They urged parents to monitor their children's social media habits and highlight the dangers of copying online trends. The authorities emphasised that popularity metrics offer no protection from legal action when lives and property are endangered.
Dubai Police encouraged young people to focus on positive, responsible content that reflects the UAE's values, and assured that patrols and surveillance systems are in place to detect and respond to similar incidents.
