Manama: Astronomical researcher Mohammed Redha Al Asfoor has announced that the winter season will begin on Sunday, December 21, coinciding with the start of the Islamic month of Rajab (1447 AH). According to Al Asfoor, this year's Islamic months of Rajab, Sha'ban, and Ramadan will all fall during the winter season.
The winter season, will conclude with the end of Ramadan and the arrival of Eid Al Fitr on Friday, March 20 2026, which also marks the beginning of the spring equinox. Al Asfoor noted that Ramadan is eagerly anticipated by Muslims worldwide for its spiritual significance, adding that the holy month this year will take place entirely in winter.
Astronomically, winter begins with the winter solstice on December 21 at 6:03 PM local time in Bahrain, when the day is shortest and the night is longest. Regarding the Rajab crescent, Al Asfoor said it will be difficult to see on Saturday, December 20, due to low visibility. However, on Sunday, December 21, the crescent is expected to be clearly visible to the naked eye, weather permitting.
