A tragic school trip turned deadly on Saturday morning when six students drowned and 24 others were injured while swimming at Abu Talat Beach in Alexandria’s Agamy district, according to Egyptian authorities.

The incident occurred during an outing organized by a hospitality academy. Emergency services responded swiftly, deploying 16 fully equipped ambulances to the scene. The victims were transported to nearby hospitals for urgent treatment.

The Health Ministry confirmed that 13 students were admitted to Agamy Specialised Hospital, eight to Amriya General Hospital, while three others received immediate medical attention on-site. The injured students are being treated for asphyxia-related complications caused by drowning.

Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar said he is closely monitoring the emergency response, assuring that all necessary medical support is being provided to the affected students and their families.

Local authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the drowning, as questions mount over supervision and safety measures during the school trip.
