A routine desert outing ended in tragedy for two young Saudis after their car became stuck in sand, leaving them stranded without water in searing summer heat.

The victims, identified as Hamoud Jifin Al Saadi and Walid Khusheim Al Saadi, had ventured into a remote wilderness area located between the provinces of Bisha and Tathlith, roughly 40 kilometers southeast of the Al Junaynah center.

According to reports, their vehicle broke down and became lodged in the dunes. Despite repeated attempts to free it, the men were unable to escape the unforgiving terrain. With no access to drinking water and temperatures soaring, both men succumbed to dehydration.

Dr. Mohammed Ubaid Al Saadi, Walid’s uncle, told Okaz newspaper that the pair fought desperately to save themselves. “They went out into that desert area, but the car got trapped among the sand dunes. They tried to free it, but with no water and in the fierce heat, they could not survive,” he said.

Rescue teams and volunteers were dispatched after the alarm was raised. The bodies were later recovered and transferred to a local hospital, where funeral preparations are now underway.

The incident highlights the dangers of venturing into the desert without adequate supplies. Authorities continue to urge travelers to carry sufficient water, survival equipment, and ensure they remain in contact when heading into remote areas, especially during the peak of summer.
