One Dead, Several Missing After Yacht Collides With Cargo Ship Off Southern Japan

A tragic accident occurred off southern Japan on Wednesday when a yacht collided with a cargo ship, leaving one person dead and several others missing, authorities said.
The captain of a 492-ton gravel carrier reported the collision near Hoto Island in Oita Prefecture to the Japan Coast Guard. Rescue teams found a man around 10:00 a.m. after he was pulled unconscious from the water and rushed to a hospital, where he was later confirmed dead. The victim was identified as a 70-year-old man from Oita.
The gravel carrier’s captain reported that several people were on the yacht at the time of the accident. The coast guard is continuing the search for the missing passengers, deploying six vessels and one plane to the area.
No further details about the missing individuals have been released, and the investigation into the collision is ongoing.
