The U.S. State Department has informed Congress that the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and the Palestinian Authority (PA) have failed to meet their obligations under the PLO Commitments Compliance Act of 1989 and the Middle East Peace Commitments Act of 2002.
According to the report, the PLO and PA engaged in actions that contradict their previous commitments to support UN Security Council Resolutions 242 and 338. These actions include pursuing cases against Israel in international forums such as the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the International Court of Justice (ICJ), as well as efforts to internationalize the conflict with Israel.
The State Department also cited the PA’s continued support for terrorism, including the glorification of violence in textbooks and financial payments to Palestinian militants and their families.
In response, the U.S. has imposed sanctions under Section 604(a)(1) of the 2002 law, which include denying visas to PLO members and PA officials. The State Department emphasized that the measures are intended to hold the organizations accountable and to protect U.S. national security interests while reinforcing the importance of adhering to peace commitments.
