Trump says Iran is ‘collapsing’ as sanctions loom
Houthi rebels also claim a missile strike on a Saudi oil tanker in the Red Sea
US President Donald Trump said Iran was “collapsing” on Monday, hours before Washington was expected to announce details of new sanctions targeting Tehran.
Trump made the comment on his Truth Social platform, writing in a post that Iran was “completely collapsing” without providing further details.
Meanwhile, Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthis claimed they had struck a Saudi oil tanker in the Red Sea with a ballistic missile.
The group said the attack hit the vessel directly and caused a fire, prompting other ships in the area to leave.
The claim came after the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations agency reported that a tanker had been hit by an unidentified projectile off Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea coast.
The agency said the vessel caught fire on its main deck but reported that all crew members were safe and accounted for. No environmental impact was reported.
The incident occurred about 63 nautical miles west of the Saudi port city of Yanbu.
