Rescue teams have pulled ten crew members alive from the Red Sea after a cargo ship named Eternity C sank following a double attack by Yemen’s Houthi militia. Sadly, four crew members died and 15 remain missing, officials from the rescue operation confirmed.
The attack took place on Monday and Tuesday, with the ship sinking early Wednesday morning. The Eternity C had 25 people on board.
The six most recently rescued seafarers had spent over 24 hours in the water before being found. Their survival offers a small light of hope in a tense and dangerous situation.
Houthi military spokespersons claimed responsibility for the strike and said their forces also helped rescue some of the crew, providing medical care and taking them to safety.
This is the second ship sunk in recent days. On Sunday, the Houthis attacked the Magic Seas. That vessel also sank, but all crew members were rescued in time.
These incidents follow several months of calm in the region. The renewed attacks have raised fresh concerns for commercial shipping routes through the Red Sea, a vital international trade corridor.
Search efforts continue for those still missing.
