Loud explosions were heard in the western parts of Tehran on Monday evening, according to an AFP journalist on the ground, amid rising tensions between Iran and Israel.
Shortly before the blasts, the Israeli military issued an urgent evacuation notice for residents of Tehran’s District 3, a large and densely populated area in the northeastern part of the Iranian capital. The district is home to over 330,000 people and includes the headquarters of Iran’s state broadcaster, the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB).
Maps shared along with the warning show a significant part of the district within the evacuation zone.
Meanwhile, Ghana has closed its embassy in Iran and begun evacuating its citizens, including students and embassy staff. Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, confirmed that the evacuation would be carried out via land borders due to the deteriorating security situation.
Though the number of Ghanaians living in Iran remains unclear, the government has taken swift action to ensure their safety.
In a statement, Ghana’s government called for calm and urged both Iran and Israel to pursue diplomatic solutions to end the conflict and prevent further escalation.
