Sports medicine clinic launched

The National Sports Medicine Centre’s first specialized sports medicine and injuries clinic was inaugurated yesterday by the Southern Governor and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) board member Shaikh Abdulla bin Rashid Al Khalifa at Khalifa Sports City in Isa Town to provide for the treatment of injured Bahraini athletes.

Supervised by Dr Francisco Chapman from Cuba, the clinic is part of a massive BOC project aimed to develop the National Sports Medicine Centre facilities and services.

“I would like to thank Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa for giving me the opportunity to work here at the Bahrain Sports Medicine Centre and I promise to offer my experience to help Bahrain sport reach their highest performance standards,” said Chapman in his speech.

Dr Chapman, who has been working in the field of sports medicine and sports injuries since 1992, served for several years in India, Ethiopia and Algeria before coming to Bahrain.

Shaikh Abdulla commended the steps taken by the BOC in boosting the services being provided at the centre in an attempt to ensure the best treatment solutions, as well as analysis and rehabilitation of injured athletes.

He also expressed pride for the prominent staff available at the centre and the advanced technology equipment which provide high level treatment for the national team athletes and citizens alike.

Yesterday’s function was also attended by high-ranking officials from the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Health Ministry, Education Ministry, Information Affairs Ministry, Bahrain Defence Force and other relevant authorities.
