Bahrain captain Nasser Anan has described the national volleyball team’s recent training camp in Cairo as a timely and effective part of their build-up to the 6th Asian Men’s Volleyball Challenge Cup.

The squad returned from Egypt buoyed by productive sessions and two test matches against the Egyptian national team. “The camp in Cairo was ideal,” said Anan. “We played two friendlies—some players sat out the first due to minor injuries, but in the second we had a full squad and showed our potential. We gained a lot both tactically and mentally.”

Title Ambitions on Home Ground

With the tournament being staged in Bahrain for the second year running, expectations have naturally risen. For Anan, the focus is on making the most of playing at home and aiming high. “We go into every tournament to compete for the title,” he said. “But this edition is special. It’s on our court, in front of our people.”

Drawn alongside Thailand and Indonesia in Group A, Bahrain face early tests. Thailand, champions two editions ago, bring pedigree and form, but Bahrain are ready to meet the challenge head-on. Preparations have continued locally following their return from Cairo, with training sessions sharpening tactics and match-readiness.

Support That Lifts

Anan was quick to highlight the importance of Bahrain’s loyal supporters, who have become a consistent presence in recent campaigns. “Our fans never need an invitation, they’re always with us,” he noted. “They’re our extra player. Their support gives us energy, and we’re determined to give them something to cheer for.”

With the squad settled, the technical staff focused, and the countdown nearly complete, Bahrain enter the tournament with momentum and the backing of a nation. The path to the knockout stages will demand focus, but the mood in camp suggests a side ready to rise to the occasion.
