RCSIB, GAPIO host joint-research meeting

Manama : Under the Patronage of Supreme Council of Health Chairman, Lieutenant General Dr Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland – Medical University of Bahrain (RCSI Bahrain) on Friday played host to a first joint-research meeting with the Global Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (GAPIO).

The event featured a series of keynote lectures, discussions and poster presentations involving students and senior academic staff, as well as representatives of other institutions from around Bahrain and further afield, including American Mission Hospital, Arabian Gulf University (AGU), the Indian Medical Association and Weston General Hospital in the UK.

Among the subjects under focus during the event were medical image processing for 3D printing; diabetes and neuroprotection; sickle cell disease; humour aids in education; academic professional development; postdoctoral research and the significance of sigma receptors in breast cancer.

The main objective of this event was to provide an opportunity for academics and healthcare professionals from RCSI Bahrain and the Indian medical fraternity in Bahrain to network and discuss ongoing research projects.
