The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) – Medical University of Bahrain hosted this semester TEDxRCSI Bahrain 2025-26 under the theme “Beyond Medicine” with an inspiring programme of talks celebrating the human dimensions of healthcare.

Organised by a dedicated team of students with the support of the University’s Student Services, Events, Sports & Recreation Department and the Language and Culture Unit, TEDxRCSI Bahrain 2025-26 showcased ten inspiring student-led talks exploring the intersection of medicine, humanity and personal growth.

Drawing on their personal experiences, the student speakers reflected on resilience, anxiety, burnout, professional identity and belonging, teamwork and the transformative power of compassion in healthcare. Through stories of overcoming setbacks, balancing ambition with wellbeing, embracing cultural identity and recognising the emotional dimensions of patient care, the talks challenged conventional perceptions of success and healing. Collectively, they highlighted that while universities equip future healthcare professionals with clinical knowledge and technical expertise, it is empathy, self-awareness, collaboration and meaningful human connection that define excellent practitioners.

Professor Sameer Otoom, President of RCSI Medical University of Bahrain, commented: “TEDxRCSI Bahrain 2025-26 continues to demonstrate the remarkable talent, insight and leadership of our students beyond the classroom. The willingness of our speakers to share deeply personal experiences with authenticity and courage reflects the values we strive to nurture throughout their educational journey. Clinical excellence remains fundamental to healthcare, but compassion, resilience, effective communication and emotional intelligence are equally important qualities for healthcare professionals. Events such as this provide an invaluable platform for students to develop their personal identity, inspire their peers and contribute to meaningful conversations that extend beyond medicine.

The University extends its sincere thanks to all student speakers for their outstanding contributions and for sharing their insightful and heartfelt experiences with community.

This private event held on campus brought together 100 students and staff members in accordance with TEDx event guidelines with the approval of the Higher Education Council of the Kingdom of Bahrain.

This third edition of a TEDx event at RCSI Medical University of Bahrain reflects the University’s commitment to developing compassionate, resilient and globally minded healthcare professionals by creating opportunities that strengthen communication, reflective practice and leadership, reinforcing the RCSI values that underpin our healthcare education and our emphasis on patient-centred care.
