Strict action pledged against guilty officials in Bahrain

Information and Parliament Affairs Minister Isa bin Abdulrahman Al Hammadi yesterday said that strict action would be taken against those officials who misused their authority.

Addressing the media after the Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the minister stressed that no official was immune to the law. His statements came after the Premier directed government entities to follow up on the recommendations of the National Audit Court’s 2014-2015 annual report.

Al Hammadi said that last year also the Cabinet discussed the report of the National Audit Court and a lot of cases had been referred to the Public Prosecution and the court. They did not succumb to the influence or power of any official in this issue, he said.

Highlighting the great amount of transparency maintained by the Bahraini government, the minister said: “We should feel proud that the government is doing its best to protect the public fund.” He also said that Bahrain had established a leading model in the implementation of the observations mentioned in the National Audit Office (NAO) report.

The minister underlined the government’s firm stance in dealing with the NAO’s observations aimed at preserving public funds, developing the performance of government institutions and ensuring the ideal use of the available resources.

The minister said that the criminal violations would be directly handled by the Directorate of Criminal Procedure.

In the meantime, administrative violations, which may require intervention, will be handled by the Ministry of Interior. If violations are found, the case would be handed over to the Public Prosecution, he said, adding that the government was strict about dealing with the criminal cases.

In response to media reports about the financial situation of the Bahrain Livestock Company, the minister said that it was too early to address the situation of a commercial enterprise based on press statements, adding there was  a law to deal with the financial situations of trade companies and businesses to protect the shareholders’ rights.
