Bahrain's public funds must be used wisely, says PM
Prime Minister HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa yesterday directed all ministries and entities cited in the National Audit Court’s 2014-2015 Report to urgently rectify irregularities and implement the recommendations featured in the report.
Chairing the Cabinet meeting, the Prime Minister directed the Executive Committee, headed by Crown Prince, Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister, HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa to follow up with the relevant ministries on the recommendations and emphasised that the government was committed to ensuring that public funds are used effectively and for the best interests of the Kingdom’s citizens.
The Ministerial Committee for Financial Affairs and Rationalising Expenditure had earlier decided to freeze certain benefits for heads and members of government councils and committees, and companies in which the government’s shares exceed 50 per cent, until the end of the current budget year. The Prime Minister also directed the panel to ensure that the freeze also covered financial bonuses provided by government entities and companies.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister also instructed the ministers to take all necessary steps to ensure that citizens’ standards of living are maintained, and that job creation within the Kingdom continues to grow.
The Prime Minister also stressed that despite global economic challenges currently faced, both objectives are achievable and relevant ministries and committees must make every effort required to meet them.
