Filipino voting in Bahrain enters second day

The “Overseas Voting 2022” for the Filipino community in Bahrain is now on its second day. The opening of the month-long “Overseas Voting” began with thousands of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) eager to vote in their next President and other local officials.

Charge’s d Affaires in Bahrain Maria Paz G. Cortes and other embassy officials were on hand to welcome the OFWs. The embassy has observed COVID protocols, including wearing facemasks, observing social distancing and avoiding large crowds, to ensure the safety of all voters and embassy staff.
 
The estimated number of OFWs based in the Bahrain is around 49,000. The Overseas Voting schedule is from 8 am until 4 pm, and on 9 May, from 8 am until 2 pm. The national election in the Philippines will take place on May 9. The “Overseas Voting 2022” is being held in order to give Filipinos abroad a chance to cast their vote for the next President and national officials of the Philippines. Filipinos around the globe will select the successor of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte as well as the next vice president.

The nine candidates vying for President are Former Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella, Leody de Guzman; Former secretary of National Defense Norberto Gonzales, Senator Panfilo Lacson, Faisal Mangondato, Former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr.; Jose Montemayor,  Mayor of Manila Isko Moreno, Senator Manny Pacquiao and Vice President Leni Robredo.

The five candidates for Vice President are Mayor of Davao City Sara Duterte, House Deputy Speaker Lito Atienza, Walden Bello, Dr. Willie Ong and Senator Francis Pangilinan.
