Bahrain, Russia sign deal to strengthen ties

Bahrain and Russia signed a memorandum of understanding to deepen bilateral relations, strengthen parliamentary cooperation, and broaden frameworks of joint action between the legislative branches.

Council of Representatives Speaker Fawzia bint Abdulla Zainal and the Chairwoman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia, Valentina Matviyenko, signed the agreement on the sidelines of the Russian high-level parliamentary delegation’s visit to the kingdom.

The move was based on the two sides’ shared desire to bolster friendship and cooperation, being an effective means to enhance rapprochement at all levels, and based on the cultural values and historical traditions shared by the two friendly countries.

The MoU aims to improve the level of bilateral parliamentary cooperation and increase exchanged visits between the two sides’ delegations.

Under the deal, the two sides will exchange information and expertise, coordinate efforts to promote peace and security, as well as enhance their consultations within international parliamentary organisations and gatherings.

Growing relations

Speaker Zainal affirmed strong and growing relations between Bahrain and Russia, thanks to the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

She emphasised the support of the legislative branch to all joint commercial and investment projects which are witnessing remarkable progress thanks to the support of the government led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. She also noted the role of the joint committees of businessmen from both countries.

Both sides discussed issues of common concern, including regional and international developments and the need to further boost parliamentary cooperation and coordination of stances to promote security and growth in the region and the whole world. Matviyenko thanked Speaker Zainal for the invitation to visit Bahrain and the gracious welcome and hospitality.

She praised Bahrain as a modern civil state, stressing its influential and respectful role within the international community. Matviyenko also commended the kingdom’s democratic development under the leadership of HM the King and lauded the advancement of Bahraini women.
