Woman embezzled BD200,000 in six years

The High Criminal Court is hearing an appeal against a five-year jail term awarded to a woman charged with stealing and laundering BD200,000 from her employer.
The woman, an Asian national, allegedly embezzled money from her company between 2014 and 2020. She took the money while she was in charge of collecting money from her firm’s customers. Her company, a video production company, also owns several buildings.
She was also in charge of collecting money from tenants as well, and she took advantage of the fact that, in some cases, the customers weren’t requesting receipts.
The woman allegedly transferred some of the cash she stole to her family members and the rest for buying valuables. She reportedly also sought the help of some of her friends to do the transfer on some occasions. The woman was eventually discovered and put on trial.
