Starting today, those eligible to receive a booster shot will have their vaccine shield shining yellow. The shield will turn green only after taking the booster shot, said the Ministry of Health. Registration for booster shots is available through the “BeAware” application and “healthalert.gov.bh” website.

According to the criteria set by the National Task Force for Combatting the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the booster is available for all those aged 18 and above. However, the period after which booster is available depends on the vaccines used for completing inoculation.

Sinopharm

Those aged between 18 and 39 and received Sinopharm can take booster three months after the second shot. However, the gap is just a month for those aged 40+ and under 40 years and received Sinopharm and suffering from obesity, immuno deficiencies or chronic diseases. Booster options are either Sinopharm or Pfizer-BioNTech.

Pfizer-BioNTech

Those who completed vaccination using Pfizer-BioNTech are six months away from their booster shots. They will receive the same vaccine as a booster.

Covishield-AstraZeneca

Those who took Covishield-AstraZeneca jabs also have a six-month gap for booster. Shots can be either Covishield-AstraZeneca or Pfizer-BioNTech.

Sputnik V

Those inoculated using Sputnik V also have a six-month gap between booster and second shot. The booster shot can be either Sputnik V or Pfizer-BioNTech.

Recovered individuals

Those who recovered and completed both vaccine doses are eligible to receive a booster shot 12 months after the date of infection. Booster protocol is the same.
