Public schools in Bahrain announced completing the comprehensive assessment of their students in all subjects yesterday to the positive reviews of students and parents alike.

The evaluation, which began on 3rd this month, Education Ministry said, was well received by students and their parents, who also requested to continue the system in going forward.

Students, as well as parents, said they found the system extremely useful. “It motivated and enhanced their knowledge base using all available resources, including that available online.”

The ministry had earlier said that the process ensures the sustainability of the teaching and learning process “without compromising quality.”

The ministry had also equipped schools with computer labs for students unable to access their assignments from home to ensure learning continuity amid the pandemic.

The comprehensive assessment allows teachers to assess students’ overall understanding of the curriculum or skill and boost learning through improved teaching strategies.

Unlike a single quiz or test, a comprehensive assessment follows a multipronged approach. When asked about the programme, the guardian of student Tahira Salman Marzouq of Sitra Preparatory School for Girls said the system proved extremely useful amid the ongoing pandemic in evaluating students skill and management capabilities.

“It helped them overcome issued related to the quality of lessons, while also giving them and parents opportunity to view televised classes.

“The programme allowed students taking their classes comfortably with ample support of the teachers and school administration.

“The strategies also took into account all group and learning style, which also confirmed its success.”

Arabic language teacher and media coordinator at Aali Elementary Preparatory School for Boys, Mahmoud Abdel-Hussein Al-Qallaf, said his students and parents were happy with the results.

“They praised the system for its effectiveness in assessing the skills of students, also pointing to the positive interaction.”

Hassan Ali Hassan, a middle school student, said the system revitalised their capabilities, not just for the tests but also for acquiring skills for using electronic devices and modern technology.

Mother of Hassan said, “The lessons were interactive and captured the attention of students effectively.” She also recommended continuing the system in the coming years. Fadel Abbas Ahmed, a student from the second year of middle school, said he and his friends did not face any difficulties, especially after familiarising themselves with the system in the first semester despite a having number of subject-related queries.

Fadel, his parent, said the applications boosted their inquisitive capabilities and motivated them to look beyond and verify the information either through their textbook or using the vast resources available through the Internet. Salman Muhammad alKhayyat, a guardian, thanked the management of Jabriya Secondary School for Boys and the educational staff for facilitating the distance learning process and diligent follow-up of students individually.

The process, al-Khayyat said, contributed to strengthening communication between students and teachers, effectively overcoming difficulties for all students.

Another parent Majid Ali praised the organisation and smooth running of the system, especially the comprehensive assessment.
