Geneva convention exposes Iran’s violations: Buhassan

Manama

Iran’s foreign policies and human rights violations were addressed in a multinational convention that was recently organised on the sidelines of the 30th regular session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC) in Geneva, Switzerland.

During the “Human Rights in the Middle East” convention, about ten speakers from different nations addressed the matter of the deteriorated human rights status in Iran and its “blatant interference” in regional countries’ internal affairs, such as Bahrain, Iraq, Syria and Lebanon.

Bahrain Parliament Foreign Affairs, Defence and National Security Committee Deputy Chairman Jamal Buhassan spoke to DT News yesterday about the main points discussed at the convention.

“The event was organised by European and American human rights organisations to tackle the never-ending concerns over human rights violations in the Middle East. Yet, the focus was mainly on Iran, as complains about its violations to the basics of human rights locally and regionally have increased lately,” Buhassan said.

Along with Buhassan, MPs, professors and experts from Ireland, Spain, Denmark and other western nations spoke during the event. They addressed the violations committed against Iranian people by the regime, as well as the country’s involvement in sectarian conflicts in other countries in the region.

“The axis of evil is how the Iranian regime was portrayed by the speakers. I was the only Arab speaker at the convention and my speech focused on the repeated Iranian hostility against Bahrain, be it by supporting radical groups and providing them with training and weapons, or its constant attempts to destablise the economy of Bahrain,” the lawmaker said.

According to Buhassan, the event was fruitful as it clarified to the international community the crimes committed by the Iranian regime. To serve this purpose, the MP said that himself supported their claims with documents, visual and physical evidences.

As reported earlier, the Iranian regime has been proved to be involved in supporting and financing many criminal activities in Bahrain during the past four years.

Large quantities of weaponry that was smuggled from Iran through the sea were confiscated by local authorities, this year alone.

The same weapons were utilised in killing over three policemen between July and August, this year. Suspects who were arrested in relation to the murders admitted in interrogation that they received training from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
