Bahrain Stack More Medals at GCC Games
Bahrain continued its strong campaign at the 4th GCC Games in Doha yesterday, producing another successful day across shooting, athletics, volleyball, padel, snooker, and table tennis as the Kingdom added further medals to its growing tally ahead of the competition’s conclusion on May 22.
At the Lusail Shooting Range, Bahrain opened the day with a podium finish in the Mixed Team Skeet event. The pairing of Tamer Ali and Maryam Alasam secured the bronze medal after recording 137 points in a tightly contested final. Kuwait narrowly claimed silver with 138 points, while hosts Qatar took gold with 144.
At Aspire Dome, Bahrain’s padel teams had mixed results in their opening round-robin action. The men’s team suffered a 3–0 defeat to the UAE, while the women’s team kicked off their campaign strongly with an impressive 3–0 win over Kuwait, setting a positive tone for their tournament run.
Bahrain’s volleyball team also delivered a confident performance at Aspire, defeating Oman in straight sets to secure an important victory. Bahrain won 25–22, 25–21 and 25–18 in a composed display that ended when Oman’s final serve struck the net.
Following the match, Bahrain player Ali Habib highlighted the challenges the squad faced in preparation for the Games.
“We ended the Isa bin Rashid Volleyball League late, so we didn’t have much preparation time — just three training sessions,” he said. “Thankfully, we were able to overcome these difficulties. Every match is a final, and we’ll get ready for the UAE.”
At the Qatar Billiards & Snooker Federation Hall, Bahrain’s snooker players battled through a difficult Men’s 6-Red Singles competition.
Hesham Alsaqer exited in the quarter-finals after a 4–0 defeat to Qatar’s Ali Al Obaidli, while teammate Habib Sabah advanced to the semi-finals following a strong 4–2 victory over the UAE’s Abdulrahman Al Shamsi.
Sabah later fell 4–2 to Al Obaidli in the semi-finals but secured a bronze medal for Bahrain after an impressive run through the tournament.
Meanwhile, Bahrain’s table tennis players continued their campaign at the Women’s Hall, where Sayed Murtadha and Elias Al Yasi featured in the singles and doubles final rounds. Dana Al Khayyat and Ryan Rashid also competed in final-round action as Bahrain remained active across multiple categories.
At the Qatar Sports Club, Bahrain’s athletics team once again delivered standout performances on the track.
Tigest Mekonen claimed gold in the women’s 3000m steeplechase final after crossing the line in 10:30.41, finishing ahead of athletes from Kuwait and the UAE in a commanding race.
Bahrain also secured another gold medal in the Mixed 4×400m relay, finishing first in 3:21.44 ahead of hosts Qatar, who took silver in 3:23.37.
Elsewhere on the track, Oluwakemi Adekoya competed in the women’s 400m hurdles final but was unable to finish the race. Qatar claimed both gold and silver through Sara Ali and Mahra Enqelya respectively.
Ali Haji also represented Bahrain in the men’s 200m heats as Bahrain continued a busy athletics schedule on another productive day for the Kingdom at the GCC Games.
