Deadly Highway Crash

- One-year term confirmed in crash that killed two
- Victims were assisting with tyre change when the crash occurred

High Criminal Court of Appeal upheld a one-year prison sentence against a driver involved in a traffic accident that killed two people and injured several others on King Hamad Highway.

The court heard that the defendant was driving northbound in the right lane when he failed to pay proper attention near the traffic signal at Askar Junction. His vehicle veered into the emergency lane, where two vehicles had stopped.

According to court documents, one vehicle was carrying two girls, while the driver of the second vehicle had stepped out to help change a tyre. The defendant’s vehicle struck the second car before hitting three pedestrians standing nearby, throwing them between the stationary vehicles.

The collision also damaged the first vehicle and left multiple victims with serious injuries.

Two of the injured later died from severe fractures and internal injuries sustained in the crash, while a third victim suffered multiple fractures and lung injuries. Two passengers also sustained injuries ranging from minor head trauma to facial and internal wounds.

The defendant admitted to the charges during the proceedings.
