Rashid Al Khalifa Unveils Bahrain-Inspired Installation at Venice Biennale

Prominent Bahraini artist Rashid bin Khalifa Al Khalifa has unveiled his new installation Guarding the Passage at the 61st edition of La Biennale di Venezia in Venice.

The large-scale artwork explores themes of openness, protection, and human connection through layered red metal grids that create an immersive experience of light, movement, and shadow. The installation reflects Bahrain’s message of peace, tolerance, and cross-cultural dialogue while symbolising resilience and national identity.

Speaking at the unveiling, Rashid Al Khalifa said the participation highlights the role of art in building cultural bridges between East and West and presenting Bahrain as a nation that embraces openness while preserving its identity.

He dedicated the participation to King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, praising their support for culture and the arts.

The internationally renowned art exhibition officially opened on May 9 and will continue until November 26, bringing together artists, curators, and visitors from around the world.
