Double suicide shocks expat community

The double suicide of a man and his brother-in-law’s wife, both doctors, sent shockwaves across the Kingdom yesterday. The bodies of Dr Ibrahim Rawther and Dr Shamlina Muhammed Salim were found in an apartment in Bu Kuwara.

Sources said both killed themselves by consuming poisonous pills. Dr Ibrahim is an anesthetist from Kollam in Kerala State in India and his immediate survivors include wife and a seven-year-old son.

Dr Shamlina hails from Pathanamthitta in Kerala State, who is survived by her husband, also a doctor and a seven year-old daughter.

Interior Ministry has begun a probe into the incident, while the bodies have been moved to Salmaniya Medical Complex.

The suicide report went viral instantly on all social media networks yesterday. A friend of Dr Ibrahim, told Tribune, on grounds of anonymity, that all friends and acquaintances of the doctor were shocked after learning about the incident.

“He was a true gentleman and a great friend. We are all shocked over the incident.”
