Focus on water

ManamaThe International Peace Institute, Middle East & North Africa (IPI, MENA) announced it will launch the Water Preventive Diplomacy Process, regarding the preventive measures required to ensure sustainable and equitable distribution of water resources in the MENA region.

The event will be held under the patronage of Dr Abdul Hussain bin Ali Mirza, Bahrain’s Minister of Electricity and Water Affairs, and in partnership with 1958 Project Management and Marketing (PMM), and the Water Science & Technology Association (WSTA). 

To be opened by Dr Mirza, the event will be moderated by Nejib Friji, Director of IPI, MENA. It will feature Léna Salamé, Senior Specialist on Water Diplomacy and Development, Dr Walid Zubari, Acting Director of the Water Resources Management Program at the Arabian Gulf University (AGU), and Fatima Taha, International Water Law and Governance Expert.

Today, the international community marks World Water Day under the theme of “Nature for Water.” IPI President Terje Rod-Larsen said the “Water Preventive Diplomacy project will provide an engaging process that identifies areas where relevant stakeholders can address this issue of concern to the MENA region and beyond.” 

The event starts at 11:00 a.m, 11 April 2018 at the IPI, MENA Office, 51-52 Harbour House (5th floor), Bahrain Financial Harbour, Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain.
