Shopping malls suffer poor sales post Eid.

Manama

The shopping malls in Kingdom are suffering from a fall in their sales, post Eid. The holy month of Ramadan had come to an end along with the week-long holidays for the private and government sectors.

After the major lull and storm over the heavy shopping spree during the festival season, the shopping malls and other major shopping areas in the Kingdom had a major drop in their sales.

DT News, on daily rounds in the major areas could find the parking lots and the shopping malls almost empty with only a few sales happening. Talking to DT News, one of the employees of a leading money exchange company in Bahrain said that the sales have just gone down below 80 per cent in the past 2 or 3 days.

“The reasons are varied. Many people ensured that their money has been spent before the Eid. Also we have almost reached to the end of the month and most people might have already done with their salaries,” an employee of a money exchange company, who preferred anonymity to DT News.

“The foot fall of customers has gone down tremendously; the items being sold are only food products, vegetables and meat. Other consumer products are less moving for the past two days. However, we had tremendous sales during the Eid days which is a relief,” said a counter sales person at a shopping mall.
