Washington: According to the US embassy in Baghdad, President Donald Trump will host Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi in the White House in mid-July, a significant step toward strengthening ties between the two countries. The visit comes amidst ongoing regional tensions and attempts to strengthen economic and security cooperation.
The meeting is expected to focus on investment possibilities, energy cooperation, and security concerns, especially Baghdad's efforts to bring armed groups under state control. Iraq's government has also requested greater US support for economic reforms and international investment.
The planned visit follows a recent phone conversation between Trump and al-Zaidi in which the American president expressed support for Iraq's new government and welcomed the leader to Washington.
Analysts view the visit as part of Washington's greater strategy to maintain influence in Iraq while balancing regional dynamics, particularly Iran and security concerns in the Middle East.
