Robbery: Asian housemaid’s plea rejected

She was sentenced to six months in jail for stealing belongings of sponsor

Manama

A domestic servant, who was sentenced to six months behind bars on charges of robbery, has lost her appeal against her conviction. The Asian woman was put on trial after she was found stealing the belongings of her sponsor's family to buy drugs. The robbery was exposed after the sponsor noticed the disappearance of several valuables, including a mobile phone.

He unearthed from her room a lot of stolen items, including gold sets, prepaid phone cards and a mobile phone. "A lot of things went missing at home, and whenever we search our efforts would be fruitless. It was so bizarre that such events were happening as we kept losing things," the sponsor said before the prosecutors. "I wasn't aware that she was behind the thefts until I went to inspect her room, where I found many items that were missing.”

The defendant, however, denied robbing them, claiming that she thought that the family had disposed them. The defendant's blood was found to have traces of drugs. She will be deported once her jail term is finished.
