The First High Criminal Court in Bahrain has sentenced two defendants to seven years in prison each and imposed fines of 2,000 dinars, in a human trafficking case involving the exploitation of two underage sisters.

The court also ordered the deportation of the victims to their home country after legal procedures conclude.

The case involves a 32-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman of Asian nationality, convicted of trafficking two sisters aged 16 and 17 and exploiting them for forced prostitution.

According to the Public Prosecution, the defendants were found guilty of trafficking the minors through coercion, threats, and deception, in addition to unlawfully detaining them for financial gain.

Investigations revealed that the victims were subjected to exploitation; the accused benefited financially from their activities while denying the girls any access to the earnings. Authorities noted that the male defendant partially depended on the proceeds, while the female defendant relied entirely on them as a source of income.

The case emerged after police received information about a suspected trafficking network targeting minors. Investigations confirmed that the victims had travelled from another Gulf country after being misled with promises of employment by an unidentified individual.

Upon their arrival in Bahrain, the defendants facilitated clients and controlled the proceeds, while the victims received no payment. Prosecutors said the accused were aware that both girls were under the age of 18 and had exploited their vulnerable financial situation.
