Cat’s day out in Bahrain
Manama : Offering cat-lovers an opportunity to ‘Meow’ in all things cat, Bahrain’s first ever Cat festival ‘Meow Day 2017’ was held yesterday in Adhari Park.
“We were really surprised at the turnout,” Mohammed Hassan, Founder of 1984 PR and organiser of the event told DT News. The festival is held in collaboration with Directions PR and Events, sponsored by LuLu Hypermarket.
Encouraged by the high turnout, he told DT News, “We are definitely doing this bigger and better next year, as it’s now clear there is no shortage for cat lovers in Bahrain.”
There were stalls selling all kind of cat treats, accessories, cat-themed arts and crafts as well as artists to create cat portraits at the event.
Bahrain Writers’ Circle, a group of local writers and poets, provided custom-made poetry and short stories on request.
The best bit, however, was the beauty pageant and the ‘cat race’ for cat owners who opted to bring their cats after a pre-festival registration and approval process.
Screening of funny cat videos, trivia quiz with prizes, and face painting for kids gave cat enthusiasts more moments to immerse themselves in the glory of the cat festival.
Bahrain Rescues, a group of active animal rescuers in the Kingdom, was also present at the festival providing an opportunity for those interested in adopting a kitty.
“Since this was our first attempt, we were definitely nervous. But now we can’t wait to come back with a much bigger festival next year,” Puja Tiwari, one of the organisers said.
