House to discuss rainwater flooding in Bahrain

ManamaThe House of Representatives will discuss a request earlier submitted by a couple of MPs to debate the Government’s policies to tackle the annual rainwater flooding issue.

The MPs are demanding the government to clarify “the annual suffering of the Kingdom of Bahrain in winter season from the accumulation of rainwater, the damages citizens bear as a result of the issue and the solutions to it”.

The request was submitted by MPs Ali Al Muqla, Abdulhaleem Murad, Anas Buhindi, Nabeel Al Balooshi, Khalifa Al Ghanem, Abdulla Binhowail, Theyab Al Nuaimi, Mohsen Al Bakri, Osama Al Khaja, Isa Turki and Dawood Salman. The big number of MPs that represent different areas of all four governorate and are demanding a root solution to the issue reflects its gravity. Many parts of the Kingdom are annually affected by the rain season, as many roads are flooded during this time of the year. Last year’s season was the worst in the past decade when heavy rainfall in February “drowned” Bahrain.

If approved, a big part of one of the MPs’ ordinary sessions would be allocated to discuss the matter in the presence of representatives of the government.
