Davis Cup: JORDAN MAINTAIN PROMOTION PUSH

Jordan maintained its promotion push with a 2-1 win over Iraq for its second win in a Davis Cup Pool A Asia/Oceania Group IV match on the third day at the Bahrain Tennis Federation courts in Isa Town.
Seif Adas came from a set down to win the first singles rubber for Jordan after defeating Iraqi opponent Akram M Abdalkarem Al Saady 2-6, 7-5, 6-3, while Iraq’s Ali Khairi Hashim Al Mayahi levelled the match winning the second singles 6-4, 1-6, 7-6(1) against Ahmed Ibrahim Ahmad Al Hadid.
In the doubles decider, Jordan’s Adas and Mousa Alkotop secured a 7-6(1), 6-2 victory to win the tie against Al Mayahi and Al Saady.
The other teams in the pool are top seeds Pacific Oceania and Bahrain under veteran Davis Cup player and coach Essam Abdul A’al who have one more rest day and return to action tomorrow against Iraq out of contention for the promotion play-offs after losing to both Jordan and Pacific Oceania.
Bahrain’s squad is made up of Abdulkarim Abdulnabi, Hassan Abdulnabi, Yousif Qaed and 14-year old Ali Dawani who has yet to make his cup debut.
In Pool B, second seeds UAE one of the two relegated teams from 2014 continued their impressive form with an easy 3-0 win over Oman to top the pool, while Singapore the other with two wins are second after receiving a bye, Bangladesh defeated Kyrgyzstan 3-0 for its first win.
Matches start at 10am each day including the concluding play-offs on Saturday with two Pools of round-robin matches until tomorrow, with the top two in each pool playing off for promotion places to Group III for 2016.
The winner of Pool A plays the runner-up of Pool B and Pool B winner takes on the runner-up of Pool A, while two classification matches will also be held.

Results: Pool B: UAE bt Oman 3-0 (Mahmood Nader Al Blooshi bt Younis  Al Rawahi 6-0, 6-2, Omar Al Awadhi bt Fawaz Mandhry 6-1, 6-1, Abdulla Ahli/Fares Al Janahi bt Omran Balushi/Ahmed Al Barwani 6-2, 5-7, 6-2).
Bangladesh by Kyrgyzstan 3-0 (Sree Biplob bt Ibragim Karimberdiev 6-1, 6-0, Shibu Lal bt Namazbek Diushembiev 6-0, 6-0, S Lal/Ranjam Ram bt I Karimberdiev/E Tenizbaev 6-0, 6-0).
