Physical literacy project launched

Manama : An initiative to promote physical literacy, organised by the Bahrain Olympic Committee’s Olympic Academy, was recently launched with 20 government schools across the kingdom hosting a series of seminars for both male and female students.

The idea of this project is in line with the directives of HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Chairman, and BOC President, in an attempt to spread the concept of physical literacy among youngsters at home, pre-school and school stages.

Several film materials are being used to reinforce these concepts and to explain the most appropriate methods of exercise at each stage of life.

Director of the Bahrain Olympic Academy Nabil Taha commended the positive interaction of the educational authorities at schools, “We have received great interest and appreciation from all the teachers and educational bodies at the schools we visited. We also found a strong desire to acquire many skills and knowledge in the field of physical literacy.”

The second phase will be measuring the impact of this initiative in cooperation with various partners, such as the Ministry of Education, media and other relevant partners.
