Bahrain exchange houses refuse to exchange Qatari Riyals
Manama : Exchange houses in Bahrain are refusing to exchange Qatari Riyals until further notice, claiming that the ''situation remains unclear now'' due to the political crisis between Qatar, Bahrain and other Arab states.
DT News visited several exchange houses around the kingdom and learnt that all of them refused to exchange Qatari Riyals, despite having the rates displayed wide at their outlets.
''We're not certain about the current situation. We shall see how the situation unfolds in the next couple of days. It's only a temporary procedure for security reasons," a branch manager said.
Meanwhile Bahrain Financial Company said that customers could send money to and from Qatar, but not exchange to other currencies.
DT News had reported that some commercial outlets and petrol stations had stopped accepting Qatari Riyals few hours after Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Egypt and other countries cut all ties with Qatar over terrorism related issues. This happened in the absence of any statements from the Central Bank of Bahrain.
