BTC Ramadan Tennis: Cortes, Al Sayed win
Manama : Hector Cortes and Mohammed Al Sayed defeated Hussain Al Hassan and Venkat in straight sets 6-0, 6-4 in the opening round of Group 1 doubles matches in The Late Yousif Khalil Al Moayyed Cup at the Bahrain Tennis Club Ramadan Tournament at its premises in Juffair.
In another Group 1 match, Ahmed Qaed and Khalid Qayoom comfortably beat Alaa Eddine Lakhdar and Suraj Bhaskar 6-1, 6-2.
Group 2 action saw Hussain Nashaba and Mohammed Al Mosawi beat Mohammed Yousif Abdulla and Abdul Majeed Mufiz 6-0, 6-0, while there were victories in Group 3 for Naji Al Samaheeji and Ahmed Al Omran by 6-3, 6-1 against Nabeel Dawani and Dr Hussain Mukharraq and Isa Al Sammak and Ahmed Al Jassas received a walkover win from Gerry Toledo and Raymond Leano.
Tonight the second round of group matches takes place from 9.30pm, with the format being pairs drawn into three groups playing round-robin with the quarter finals set for June 7, the semi-finals on June 10 and the final match on June 18.
A second tournament for The Late Majid Al Zayani Cup - Super Doubles is also underway and comprises two round-robin group matches with the top two qualifying for the semi-finals on June 11 and the final set for June 13.
