Manama : Bahrain is looking forward for stronger relations with the new administration in Washington, said Prime Minister HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, hinting at establishing closer ties with US under President-elect Donald Trump.

Prince Khalifa added that the Bahraini-US relations are based on shared interests and solid deep-rooted ties.

The Prime Minister made the statements while receiving the US Ambassador William Roebuck at the Gudaibiya Palace yesterday.

The Premier reviewed with the envoy Bahrain-US relations and ways to bolster them so as to reflect positively on bilateral cooperations.

The PM stressed the need for a common understanding of current global situation, and the ensuing challenges, which, he said, require unconventional international coordination.

“Bahrain welcomes any cooperation that is based on prioritising joint interests and mutual respect, and serves regional and global security,”  the Premier said. 

The high-level meeting also touched upon regional and international issues of mutual concern.

In this regard, Prince Khalifa reiterated Bahrain’s support to all international efforts aimed at boosting cooperation to enhance global security and stability.

The US envoy thanked the Prime Minister for his interest in enhancing bilateral relations, underlining his country’s keenness on bolstering cooperation with Bahrain in various fields to serve joint interests.

The US Ambassador also praised the Premier’s political, economic and diplomatic activities, and their role in strengthening Bahrain’s political, economic and investment relations with various countries and blocs.
