BIA to get facelift soon

Additional Contracts Awarded on Airport Modernisation Program

The Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications Kamal Ahmed reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to developing the new Bahrain International Airport’s (BIA) Passenger Terminal Building by awarding the first and second enabling works packages - (Enabling 1A) and (Enabling 1B).

 

The second batch of tenders to be awarded includes the main works and infrastructure, the piling works, the passenger loading bridges, baggage handling systems, horizontal and vertical passenger transport system, Information and Communications Technology (ICT), security screening equipment.

 

The Ministry has received the technical and financial bids for the piling works tender, which is currently being reviewed by a specialist consultant. The piling works will commence in July 2015 following the appointment of a contractor.

Regarding the passenger loading bridges and the baggage handling tenders, the Ministry received four and three bids respectively all of which are also being reviewed by the consulting company. The shortlisted companies will be revealed in August 2015.

 

The Ministry will receive the technical bids for the remaining tenders in July 2015 and will announce the names of the awarded companies in October 2015.
