BCFC Launches "Afaq" Scholarship Programme in partnership with The American University of Bahrain

Bahrain Commercial Facilities Company (BCFC) has launched "Afaq", a new scholarship programme under its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) agenda, designed to help academically outstanding Bahraini students secure places at leading universities. 

True to its name, Afaq, meaning "horizons", the programme opens the door for eligible Bahraini students to pursue an education at institutions of the highest caliber.

Afaq launched through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the American University of Bahrain (AUBH). The signing ceremony was attended by Mr. Abdulla Bukhowa, Chief Executive Officer of BCFC, and Dr. Wafa Almansoori, Interim President and Provost of AUBH. The partnership underscores BCFC's ongoing commitment to investing in national talent and advancing the development of Bahrain's youth, in line with the Kingdom's human capital priorities. 

Commenting on the partnership, Mr. Abdulla Bukhowa, Chief Executive Officer of BCFC, said: "Investing in our nation's youth sits at the heart of our ESG agenda. We believe every talented Bahraini student deserves an education that opens new horizons, and Afaq is how we act on that belief. The programme identifies high-achieving Bahraini students and supports them through to graduation from an institution of the highest standing. We are pleased to partner with the American University of Bahrain, which shares that conviction." 

For her part, Dr. Wafa Almansoori, Interim President and Provost of the American University of Bahrain, expressed her appreciation for the cooperation, saying: "We are pleased to collaborate with BCFC on an initiative that opens the horizons of American-model higher education to Bahraini students. It reflects our shared belief that supporting national talent is an investment in the Kingdom's future."

Through Afaq, BCFC reaffirms its commitment to supporting the development of the Bahraini community and contributing to the Kingdom’s ongoing education journey. The programme will progressively expand to support a greater number of cohorts through its partnership with the university, broadening their horizons and equipping a new generation with the knowledge and opportunities to contribute to the Kingdom’s future workforce and long-term development.
