The High Criminal Court First Circuit is hearing a case against three defendants accused of involvement in a drug trafficking network that allegedly imported, manufactured and distributed drugs in Bahrain.
The defendants include a 25-year-old Bahraini man, a 24-year-old Bahraini woman and a 26-year-old Moroccan woman.
According to the investigation, the first accused allegedly ran the network and coordinated the import of drug-making materials from East Asia. The second accused travelled to another Gulf country to collect shipments and brought them into Bahrain through the King Fahd Causeway before handing them over to him.
The third accused is alleged to have transferred money through her bank account to a drug dealer in an Asian country and assisted in preparing drugs for sale.
Police arrested the first accused in Juffair following a Public Prosecution warrant. Officers said he resisted arrest and attempted to use an electric stun device.
A search uncovered suspected processed cannabis weighing 249.39 grams, cannabis-filled electronic cigarettes, 100 Lyrica tablets and other tablets, as well as cash and an electric stun device.
Police also searched apartments linked to the defendants and allegedly found drugs and items used for distribution.
The first accused admitted selling and distributing drugs and arranging shipments from an Asian country. The second accused told investigators she was paid BD300 a month and had travelled around 20 times to collect shipments. The third defendant stated she transferred BD500 and helped prepare processed cannabis for sale.
The court adjourned the case until August 23 to appoint a lawyer.
