The High Labour Court has ordered a women’s fashion company to pay a foreign fashion designer BD2,300 in unpaid wages, annual leave compensation and other employment entitlements.

The claimant worked as a fashion designer under a fixed-term contract from November 7, 2024, to November 7, 2025, earning a monthly salary of BD500.

She claimed unpaid wages for several months, her salary for the final seven days of her contract, a BD200 salary deduction and payment for her unused annual leave.

The company disputed the claim, arguing that the designer had received BD1,000 in cash but failed to remit BD100. It also claimed she had received perfumes worth BD2,860 to sell outside Bahrain without handing over the proceeds.

The company sought to recover BD2,960 from the designer.

After reviewing the evidence, the court found that the company had failed to provide documents, acknowledgements or other material evidence proving the alleged debts.

The court also found that a witness who testified about the shipment of the perfumes did not know the terms of the agreement between the parties or what happened to the products or their proceeds.

The court therefore rejected the company’s defence and ordered it to pay the outstanding wages, compensation for the delay, BD500 for the annual leave balance, 1% annual legal interest, and legal costs and fees.
