Youth Vital to Bahrain’s Peace Efforts
Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the King Hamad Global Centre for Coexistence and Tolerance, Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, has highlighted the vital role of Bahraini youth in promoting a culture of peace, tolerance and dialogue.
Marking International Youth Day, observed this year under the theme “Different Circumstances, Shared Aspirations,” Dr. Shaikh Abdullah stressed Bahrain’s commitment to supporting young people, developing their scientific and knowledge-based capabilities, and empowering them to become active partners in safeguarding national security and stability, strengthening unity and contributing to the Kingdom’s development.
He also highlighted the support extended to youth by Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, His Majesty the King’s Representative for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports.
Dr. Shaikh Abdullah said Bahraini youth have demonstrated advanced cultural awareness, combining pride in their national and Gulf identity with responsible expressions of national belonging, social cohesion, respect and human coexistence.
He noted that the King Hamad Global Centre for Coexistence and Tolerance is committed to empowering young people to promote the values of coexistence through its educational and training programmes.
These include the King Hamad Programme for Leadership in Coexistence, the Postgraduate Diploma in Coexistence, and support for the King Hamad Chair for Interfaith Dialogue, Peace and Coexistence at Sapienza University of Rome.
The centre also continues to develop initiatives through national and international partnerships, in line with the principles of the Bahrain Declaration on Religious Freedom and Belief and the objectives of the centre’s initiative adopted by the United Nations establishing the International Day of Living Together in Peace.
