No drilling before 7am or after 8pm
Noisy roadworks and maintenance near residential areas could be prohibited before 7am and after 8pm under a proposal submitted by five MPs.
The proposal, led by MP Badr Saleh Al Tamimi and signed by MPs Abdulla Al Dhaen, Ali Al Nuaimi, Ali Saqr Al Dosari and Hisham Al Awadhi, seeks to regulate routine construction and infrastructure work near homes.
Under the proposal, work could begin at 7am on working days and 8am on public holidays, with all routine work ending by 8pm.
The restrictions would cover road excavations, sewerage, water and electricity network works and other infrastructure projects. Emergency repairs, including those needed after water or power outages, would be exempt.
Al Tamimi said the proposal follows repeated complaints from residents about noise during rest hours. He said the rules would help protect residents, particularly the elderly, children, people with disabilities and those who are unwell, while also accounting for workers’ safety during the summer.
The proposal would not prevent emergency or essential public works but aims to ensure routine projects are carried out during appropriate hours. The existing ban on work during summer midday hours would also remain in place.
