Bahrain backs UAE, condemns attack on ADNOC tanker

Shura Council chairman says UAE security is integral to Bahrain’s security

Shura Council Chairman Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh affirmed Bahrain’s full solidarity with the UAE and strongly condemned the Iranian attack on an ADNOC oil tanker while it was transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

In a solidarity message to UAE Federal National Council Speaker Saqr Ghobash, Al Saleh described the attack as a serious violation of international and maritime law and a threat to maritime navigation and energy supplies.

He stressed that Bahrain supports all measures taken by the UAE to protect its sovereignty, security, stability and vital interests, emphasising that the UAE’s security and stability are an integral part of Bahrain’s own security and stability.

Al Saleh also highlighted the deep-rooted historical and fraternal ties between Bahrain and the UAE, noting that the relationship enjoys the support of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

He called on the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, to fulfil its responsibilities in protecting maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz and other vital waterways, safeguarding commercial vessels and ensuring freedom of navigation.

He also stressed the need for Iran to respect international law, reopen the Strait of Hormuz and refrain from targeting commercial shipping.

Al Saleh reaffirmed the strong parliamentary ties between Bahrain’s Shura Council and the UAE Federal National Council and their commitment to strengthening coordination and cooperation in support of shared interests.
