SCW Promotes Women’s Readiness for Board Membership
The Supreme Council for Women (SCW), in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Central Bank of Bahrain, Bahrain Bourse, Tamkeen and the Bahrain Institute of Banking and Finance, organised an awareness meeting to encourage greater participation by Bahraini women on the boards of directors of public shareholding companies.
The meeting, attended by SCW Secretary-General Her Excellency Professor Lulwa bint Saleh Al Awadhi, focused on preparing qualified female talent to seek board positions and strengthening awareness of the legal and regulatory requirements governing nominations.
Al Awadhi conveyed the greetings of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, President of the Supreme Council for Women, and highlighted the importance of cooperation among national institutions in advancing women’s representation in corporate leadership.
The initiative also supports the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, regarding women’s representation on the boards of publicly listed companies and the disclosure of gender-based board membership statistics in annual reports.
The awareness session forms part of the “Empowering Women in Board Membership” programme under the National Plan for the Advancement of Bahraini Women (2025–2026).
The programme aims to encourage qualified Bahraini women to pursue board positions, explain nomination procedures and requirements, and strengthen their understanding of corporate governance and institutional performance.
The initiative also highlights successful national experiences and provides information on available training and professional development opportunities designed to prepare Bahraini women for leadership roles.
