Bahrain has strengthened its position as a global leader in digital connectivity, ranking sixth worldwide in the 2026 ICT Development Index (IDI) published by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

The Kingdom moved up three places from last year's rankings, securing sixth position among 159 countries with an overall score of 98%, marking another milestone in the development of its telecommunications and digital infrastructure.

Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, said the achievement reflects Bahrain's continued progress under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the government's strategic vision led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to position the Kingdom among the world's leading nations in telecommunications and information and communications technology.

The minister said the improved global ranking demonstrates the success of Bahrain's national strategies to expand digital infrastructure and enhance the quality of telecommunications services through close collaboration with relevant government entities and the dedicated efforts of national talent.

He added that these initiatives have enabled Bahrain to deliver high-quality telecommunications and internet services, increase fixed and mobile broadband subscriptions, and expand the coverage and accessibility of digital services across the Kingdom.

The latest ranking further highlights Bahrain's commitment to digital transformation and its continued investment in advanced telecommunications infrastructure to support innovation, economic growth, and the delivery of world-class digital services.
