Muharraq is set to enhance its urban advertising landscape following a new agreement between the Muharraq Municipality and Batelco, part of Beyon, to operate and invest in 10 electronic advertising screen sites along the Muharraq Ring Road.
The five-year agreement focuses on transforming traditional advertising locations into modern digital platforms, supporting greater efficiency, flexibility, and investment opportunities within the municipal advertising sector.
The initiative was announced during a signing ceremony attended by the Minister of Municipalities and Agriculture at the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, along with senior officials, including representatives from the Muharraq Municipal Council and executives from Batelco.
Officials said the project reflects a broader strategy to modernize municipal assets and integrate advanced technologies into public infrastructure. It also aligns with Bahrain’s ongoing push toward digital transformation and smart city development.
The Minister of Municipalities and Agriculture said the agreement represents a significant step in upgrading advertising services managed by municipalities. He noted that expanding the use of electronic screens will help keep pace with rapid developments in the advertising industry while improving service quality.
He also highlighted the importance of collaborating with the private sector, stating that such partnerships enable the government to benefit from technical expertise, improve operational efficiency, and enhance the sustainability of municipal revenue sources.
Muharraq Municipality Director General, Engineer Khalid Ali Al Qallaf, said the project supports the municipality’s vision to expand smart advertising solutions and gradually transition from conventional billboards to digital formats. He added that this will provide advertisers with more dynamic and flexible platforms.
Batelco Chief Executive Officer Muneer Abdullah said the company is proud to support the initiative, emphasizing its commitment to advancing Bahrain’s digital transformation. He said Batelco will leverage its technological capabilities to ensure high-quality operation of the advertising network and contribute to smart city initiatives across the Kingdom.
