Crescent Moon to Hide Venus Over Bahrain
Bahrain’s skies will witness two notable celestial events tomorrow, Monday, September 14, 2026, as the crescent Moon of Rabi’ Al Thani 1448 AH interacts with Venus — beginning with a daytime occultation followed by an evening conjunction.
Astronomical researcher Mohammed Redha Al Asfour said Venus will be completely hidden behind the Moon’s disk during the daytime occultation. The event is expected to begin over Bahrain at 1:22pm and continue until 2:50pm local time.
He noted that observing the daytime occultation will require specialised astronomical binoculars or telescopes.
After sunset, the celestial show will continue with a conjunction that can be easily seen with the naked eye towards the western horizon. Venus will appear as an extremely bright object next to the crescent Moon.
Al Asfour also pointed out that Venus is currently in a crescent phase itself. This means observers using telescopes or telephoto lenses may be able to see two crescents side by side in the sky — the Moon and Venus. This is because Venus, as an inner planet, goes through illuminated phases similar to those of the Moon.
