FAO, Bahrain Eye Farm Growth

Talks focus on boosting local production, supporting farmers and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.

Bahrain is looking to strengthen cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to advance agricultural development and food security.

His Excellency Engineer Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, met Dr Ahmed Mukhtar, Coordinator of FAO’s Sub-Regional Office for the GCC countries and Yemen and the organisation’s Representative in the United Arab Emirates.

The meeting was attended by Engineer Asim Abdul Latif Abdullah, Undersecretary for Agriculture and Animal Wealth Affairs.

Al Mubarak said the ministry remains committed to supporting farmers, increasing local agricultural production and promoting modern technologies and sustainable farming practices.

He stressed the importance of benefiting from FAO’s expertise and specialised programmes to improve resource efficiency and strengthen the sustainability of Bahrain’s agricultural sector.

The two sides also discussed expanding cooperation in agriculture, food security and sustainability, along with several areas of mutual interest.

Dr Mukhtar reaffirmed FAO’s commitment to working with Bahrain in the agricultural and food sectors. He praised the Kingdom’s efforts to develop local agriculture and boost domestic production, and reaffirmed the organisation’s support for initiatives promoting food security and sustainability in the region.
