A 26-year-old man has been sentenced to five years in prison and fined BD 50 by the First High Criminal Court after being convicted of armed carjacking and related offences.

The court heard that the defendant carried out the attack in October 2025. He approached a vehicle near a money exchange office, threatened the occupants with a knife, stabbed the driver in the shoulder, forced him out, and then stole the car and fled the scene.

The victim sustained injuries during the assault, while a witness reported the incident to authorities. The injured driver later identified the accused, and investigators confirmed that the recovered knife was the same weapon used in the attack.

The defendant denied the charges in court, claiming he was with others at the time and was later found sleeping in the back seat of the stolen vehicle. He also admitted he had been under the influence of alcohol during the incident.

Prosecutors said he used the weapon to overpower the victim and seize the vehicle, he also faced an additional charge of public intoxication.

Police later recovered the stolen car in the defendant’s possession, with the knife inside. Investigations further revealed that he allegedly used the vehicle to commit additional offences, including assault, theft of a wallet and mobile phone, and a traffic collision.
